Waste is a global problem that can pollute the environment. Indonesia it produces 65 million tons of waste in 2017, in the chemical engineering State Polytechnic of Malang produces a mixture of plastic and paper produces ± 30 kg per day. This plastic and paper waste can be processed using the thermal decomposition method. Thermal decomposition is the process of changing complex chemical compounds into simpler chemical compounds caused by heat. The stages of the process in thermal degradation are drying, pyrolysis, gasification and combustion. This research produces heat energy that can be used to heat water with the aim of knowing the effect of air flow rate and the effect of comparison of the ratio of plastic paper to heat energy produced. The variables used are the ratio of paper: plastic which is 1: 4, 1: 3, 1: 2, 1: 1 and air flow rate with variable 2 L/ min, 3 L/ min, 4 L/ min, 5 L/min, 6 L/min. The best air flow rate in the water heating process is 3 L/min with a ratio of 1:4 which can heat water to a temperature of 90 OC.
