Ground beetle assemblages of dolomitic grasslands in Hungary

The carabid assemblages of dolomitic grasslands were investigated in the Transdanubian Mountains in Central Hungary using pitfall trapping between 1988 and 2005. A total of25 1 5 indvidual adult carabids, belonging to 65 species were collected from five localities. The most abundant species were Calathus ambiguus (24.5%), C. cinctus (16.8%) and C. fusc1pes (8.4%). Rare species were Amaraproxima, A. sollicita, Cymindis axillaris, C. variolosa, Licinus cassideus and Masoreus wetterhallii. The seasonal activity ofadult Carabus hungaricus is
