Euut'tt uut'itue and Euuru t'inereue are distinct species making spindle-shaped stem galls on Suli.r anritu and on Sali-r cinere(t, respectively. Different morphological criteria and no-choice as well as multiple choice oviposition experiments have proved E. auritae and E. cinereuc' to be distinct species. Etturrr t'inereac on S. r'irterea is distributed at least over Southern Norway., Germany and Austria, but within its distribution area it rnay occur patchily. A recent paper doubted that the type specimens of E,. cinereuc had been reared from S. cirrcreu, but rather that they had been reared from S. utu'ila. However, as discussed in the present paper, they give no coltvincing evidence that tr. cirteretle occurs on S. uuritu rather than on,S. cirtereu in Finletucl.
