. The recent decriminalization of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) for pharmaceutical and industrial use in Ecuador, allows the development of new lines of research, not only for scientific development, but also for the development of new products with beneficial characteristics focused on the health of those who consume them. OBJECTIVE. The main objective is focused on the possible benefits that the decriminalization of hemp can bring to the food industry. METHOD. 20 scientific documents were reviewed to make a critical reading and infer in the applications to the context of Ecuador. RESULTS. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the main products extracted from hemp, to which, at present, a large number of medicinal properties are attributed, mainly in nervous or mental disorders, such as epilepsy, depression, anxiety, stress among others. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. The development of products with CBD as an additive in our country is relegated, possibly due to the fact that it is a relatively new topic in the context.
