This work aims to talk about pedagogical practices and its challenges referring to the philosophy teaching in basic education. Considering the adversities faced in the educational system in Brazil, it is suggested a discussion about the places reserved to philosophy teaching aiming to access democratic spaces for thinking. In this way, we intend to build autonomous subjects through the foucaultian idea of ‘self-care’. From some pedagogical experiences that took place in a public High School in Rio de Janeiro, it was possible to identify in students an actual convergence of philosophical knowledge, leading us to assume philosophy teaching as a potential element for the experience of thought.
