This article aims to delineate the criteria applied by Carballo Calero to the evaluation and canonization of the Galician narrative corpus across his extensive output as a critic and researcher. Through a panoramic (though non-exhaustive) review of his essays, the origin of the criteria and the concepts at play in their formulation, as well as the result of their application, shall be assessed. Some cases of specific writers and works are then analysed. Finally, an account of the evolution of these criteria and their impact on the evaluation of certain works and narrative modes is provided.
