Preliminary statement: Purpose: The purpose of the study was to ascertain something of the levels of living of farm and village families in a selected area in Southeast Missouri. Particular emphasis is given to the tenure groups: owner, renter, share-cropper, and farm laborer. Scope: The inquiry included a sample of 1,533 households in the open country and villages of' Dunklin, New Madrid, and Pemiscot Counties in Southeast Missouri. The households were both white and Negro and represented all occupations and income groups. The scope of the inquiry is embodied in the schedule used, which appears in the Appendix...--Page 1.
