Text from page ii: The following discussion of the poet, Robert Bloomfield, is divided into four parts: first, a detailed account of the poet's life; second, an account of each of the poet's works, its contents and its general characteristics, and a list of all the available editions; third, a discussion of the formative influences upon the poet's life, and their place in his poetry; and fourth, an examination into what contemporary and later critics of the poet have said. The Conclusion proposes a new view of the poet's life in its relation to his works, and seeks to make a final estimate of his place in literature.
