During the 12th edition of the International Conference on Intelligent Environments (IE’16) held in London (UK) last September, IOS Press provided rewarded several researchers by their attention to quality and the potential impact of their work. Prizes to the best contributions in the categories: full paper, video/demo, doctoral colloquium and short paper were supported by JAISE and the AISE book series. The prize for the best paper consists of one year free subscription to JAISE and other products accessible through MetaPress kindly provided by IOS Press, the publisher of JAISE. The chairs of the conference directly based upon the judgment of the Program Committee unanimously decided to award the prize to the paper: “Evaluating future automation work in process plants with an experience-driven science fiction prototype” by T. Kymäläinen, E. Kaasinen, M. Aikala, H. Paunonen, J. Ruotsalainen, L. Hakulinen, T. Heimonen, and P. Mannonen. The prize for the best Doctoral Colloquium category contribution was awarded to: “Activity Recognition from Video Data using Spatial and Temporal Features” by M. Al-Wattar, R. Khusainov, D. Azzi, and J. Chiverton. The photo in Fig. 1 shows Dr. Poslad (coProgramme Chair of IE’16) presenting a certificate to Mr. Mohamad Al-Wattar. The prize for the best video/demo category contribution was awarded to: “Human Gaze and Focusof-Attention in Dual Reality Human-Robot Collaboration” by M.M. Moniri, F.A. Espinosa Valcarcel, D. Merkel, and D. Sonntag. The photo in Fig. 2 shows Organizing Committee member Dr. Poslad presenting a certificate to Mr. Mohammad Mehdi Moniri. The prize for the best Short Paper category contribution was awarded to: “Money Handling Training: Applications for Persons with Downs Syndrome” by S. Rus and A. Braun.
