WPC represent a fairly new kind of material that has already achieved a considerable market potential in North America. The market potential in Europe for WPC is not yet clearly specified, although certain trends can be identified. For the further development of this type of material the emergence of norms is important among other things, as well as application-oriented research. The main goal of research is to optimise the uniting of wood and plastic to produce even better material properties. Process optimisation should, above all, make improvements in the comparably low production level but also in the technical and optical design of the finished product.
