Traditionally the wooded pasture was a place of production,but its functions have evolved and changed within the contexts of landscape and forest management. Today the wooded pasture is the object of a multitude of expectations with regard to its environment, its landscape or its cultural value. It is important to record and characterise these changes in order to develop new management policies, which take account of the different expectations. This was the reason for our survey, carried out with 94 participants during a discovery day spent in Le Communal of La Sagne. Almost two-thirds of those surveyed see the wooded pasture, above all, as a place to find relaxation and a landscape to which they can relate. The majority come to wooded pasture to walk, to gather new energy and to experience nature. There are, however, divergences in the expectations of the local population, the farmers, and the townspeople. Within the framework of a new, integrated management of this area, co-operation between the actors and a wide information policy should assure the social sanction of interventions.
