With increasing globalisation the risk rises for the introduction of new and dangerous tree diseases. Using historical examples of epidemics we analyse the effect of tree diseases on the composition of forest and landscape. We discuss new diseases that could endanger the forests in Switzerland and measures to prevent their introduction.
