Dürsrüti is an example for an extreme variation of a selection forest that is characterised by its very high standing volume over a long period of time. Dürsrüti is also a part of Swiss forestry history: timber marking of the famous thick silver firs,of which only one remains, was reserved for high officials from the federal administration and from research institutions. Dürsrüti has been a research area of the growth and yield research since 1914. The development of the stem numbers,standing volume, increment, utilisation, diameter distribution,diameter class proportions and other parameters relevant to growth and yield are shown, interpreted and compared with the research area Hasliwald in Oppligen. The tree giants in the Dürsrüti forest are also examined. The features of this forest as a selection forest are compared with models according to MEYER (1933) and SCHÜTZ (1975, 1999). Dürsrüti forest has undergone a dramatic change in the last decades, which is expressed in the sharp decrease of the standing volume. Nonetheless, it can be concluded from the available long-term data that the forest in Dürsrüti unreservedly fulfils its function.
