Based on comprehensive cantonal data (site-type maps, game damage limitation concept, forest function plans etc.) a wideranging silvicultural project was implemeted in the canton of Glarus between 1998 and 2002, which comprises the three project components silviculture A, B and C. Each applied silvicultural measure calls for a detailed procedure with consequent action plan and tending goals. This means that a sound basis already exists with which to monitor implementation and attainment of goals. Reckoning by the means of detailed lump sums provides incentives for creative solutions, punishes economic blunders and leads, in addition, to an improvement of the managerial concept (fund raising, annual planning).
