In the two Appenzell cantons, Ausserrhoden and Innerrhoden, changes that occurred in the populations and species spectrum of 40 species of birds, which are found mainly in the forest or which rely on the forest as a habitat, will be shown. The observations made between 1995 and 2000 show that the populations of three species increased, while the populations of nine species decreased.
