January 28, 1930, constituted a historical turning point in terms of Spain’s history. On the said date, Miguel Primo de Rivera who was on the Prime Minister’s seat as of September 13, 1923, as a result of the evaluations done in line with the considerations of the army and navy commanders, decided to quit his position. However, no normalization was recorded in the country for more than a year. Developments such as boycotts seen in universities, strikes that would damage the economic structure, coup attempts, hunger strikes, political ambiguities, public disorder caused by street events, king’s failure in creating a solution, and actions of the Republican people led the country to encounter a chaos environment. Following mostly the Republicans winning the Municipal Elections done on April 12, 1931, in big cities, when the Spanish King Alfonso XIII left the country without renouncing the throne, “Republic” was proclaimed. With the proclamation of the Republic at first step, the issues such as international recognition, how the system would be regulated came into prominence. In the study, it is aimed to determine how the developments emerging during the time from the resignation of Primo de Rivera to the proclamation of the Republic in Spain are reflected to Turkish public opinion and what are the evaluations set forth. The study was based on the analyses of Akşam and Vakit newspapers that have no previous literature review. Thus, interest and approach of Turkey to Spain was attempted to be understood/ explained through the media.
