Despite the spectacular progress made in the field of communi cation interfaces for fast networks over the last fifteen years, many potential opt imizations are still unexplored by nowadays communication libraries. The cause of this situat ion resides in a design mostly fo- cused on shortening the critical path to the maximum, in orde r to minimize the latency. In this paper, we present a new communication library architec ture built around a powerful trans- fer optimizing engine, which coordinates its own activity w ith that of the network cards. The source code of the optimization strategies is generic and po rtable, and is parameterized at runtime by the capacities of the underlying network drivers . The database of predefined opti- mization strategies can easily be extended. The scheduler i s also able to mix multiple logical communication flows in a global manner onto one or more physic al network cards, potentially of different technologies in a heterogeneous multi-rail.
