ABSTRACT. Generalization of Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) to all secondary schools is set as a goal having to be achieved by the National Ministry of Education in France. In fact, the deployment of VLE is very gradual. In this paper we consider VLE as technical-pedagogical devices (Peraya, 1999) likely to change school organization, particularly in its relation to time and to space. We hypothesize that the concept of distance must be identified as an important factor in development of uses and be explicitly taken into account to rethink the "school form".
