The paper explores some concepts on the study of diversity in higher education. It describes the double challenge that diversity poses for higher education: as a problem and as an opportunity. The paper describes four levels of analysis to specify study units on diversity by articulating them with aspects in which diversity is present. In addition, it proposes a scheme that synthesizes this approach. Finally, the paper discusses the links between this issue and identity
