This article is based on the author's many years of working in medical education and serving as a consultant in other health-professional education. The article emphasizes basic principles of learning but avoids a pedantic approach, instead using anecdotes as examples. Insights drawn from these anecdotes and principles are reviewed, again with illustrative material. All of this material fits into a rationale outlined early on.
