In the interview, Tepperman and Renyk discuss the experience of writing musical theatre for the first time, and the fascinating collisions between musical theatre and immersive theatre. The two projects discussed are Brantwood, a site-specific musical created and written by Tepperman and Mitchell Cushman (with songs by Bram Gielen, Anika Johnson, and Britta Johnson), and produced by the Canadian Music Theatre Project and Sheridan College, and The Preposterous Posthumous Predicament of Paulie Peel, written by Tepperman (book) and Kevin Wong (music and lyrics) as part of The Musical Stage Company’s NoteWorthy project. A twenty-five-minute excerpt of Paulie Peel was presented as a staged concert as part of REFRAMED, a partnership between The Musical Stage Company (formerly Acting Up Stage) and The Art Gallery of Ontario, and is published in this issue of CTR.
