This article uses a stream-of-consciousness form to consider concepts of political economy in theatre and culture. It draws on frameworks by Hardt and Negri (Empire) and Serres (The Parasite), as well as Kantian divisions of the imaginary, to present a perspective on the agency of the artist, the institution, and the power of the arts in broader culture.
