“A Pedagogical Trip to the Field of Dreams” describes and rationalizes taking an Introduction to Theatre class to a baseball game as the first event of the course. It finds connections between sports and theatre around issues of space and time, play, performativity, ritual, recreation, and representation that move entry-level students’ attention from the page to the stage, beyond the questions of language, character, and plot that many have learned in secondary school to ask of dramatic literature.
