determined using X-ray powder diffraction. The Lu 1.8 Cu 9.2 Sn 2.8 compound crystallizes in the Dy 1.9 Cu 9.2 Sn 2.8 structure type (space group P63/mmc ), whereas the Lu 3Cu 4Sn 4 stannide belongs to the Tm 3Cu 4Sn 4 structure type (space group C2/ m). The formation of a substitutional solid solution LuCu 5-xSn x up to 15 at.% Sn was observed.
