The aim of this work is to study the relationship between socioemotional dimensions and decision making process in family business, associated with the profile´s configuration of decision makers. Following the socioemotional wealth theory and family business archetypes. Based on multiple case study, the findings reveal that exists a differentiated relationship between socioemotional dimensions and decision making, depending on generation number and family archetype, because their primary frame of reference is a desire to preserve and enhance the family’s socioemotional wealth. The autors propose three profiles of decision makers: SEW-Dependet, SEW-Flexible and SEW-Independent, where the SEW-Flexible is the most suitable for continuity and preservation of socioemotional wealth.
