The purpose of the article is to explain what the powers of the President of the United States consist of. Beyond describing what they are, it seeks to explain their existence and why they have been separated from the original ideal of “small and limited government”. The work was done using the neo- institutionalism methodology, that although it analyzes the legal and formal aspects of the institutions, it emphasizes on how they are integrated by “informal or non-written rules”. The results presented show how the President of the United States, despite the barely unchanged constitutional text, has acquired more and more powers, which have generated a powerful Executive Power, with the potential to exceed its constitutional limits
