This article proposes a reflection on the role that rural education has had in the process of social inclusion for the inhabitants of the countryside. Under this framework, the text is supported by an academic and institutional bibliographic review, with a view to establishing the transformative character that rural education has raised in such contexts, managed today through neoliberal policies, which have ended up increasing social inequalities between the urban and rural sector, besides delegitimizing forms of social solidarity, communality, cooperation and plurality of knowledge that identify rural life.
