Algebras of unbounded operators called 0* -algebras appear in rather broad pure mathematical context (operator theory, topological *-algebras, representations of Lie algebras etc.) and the physical applications (the Wightman quantum field theory, unbounded CCR-algebras, quantum groups etc.)- This motivated systematic studies carried on for about three decades.
