The degree in sociology of the Iztapalapa Unit, Metropolitan Autonomous University, since its inception dating back to 1975, has maintained an academic and political stability that has contributed to the continuous professionalization of its academic body and the professional training of its students with various adaptations academics in time, forming different trajectories of their graduates in the incorporation into the job market of professionals. At present, in this degree, the situation of sociology as a profession is pressured by the stagnation of student enrollment, the quality of student training and the limited employment opportunities of graduates and, above all, by the educational reform of the current government called the Fourth Transformation (4T) which, by approving the compulsory and free education of higher education, opens a strong space for the reconfiguration of professions, both in training content and in the creation of new occupational and access spaces to the labor markets. In this context, we wonder if the professional role of the UAMI sociologist, looked at by its links of academic training and professionalization, will precipitate a deprofessionalization or can find entrances in the reconfiguration of professions hovering to give vigor to a fragile degree and with Insecurity in his future.
