Este artigo trata a respeito do calculo necessario ao dimensionamento de tercas de uma cobertura de edificacao, a partir de uma estrutura de madeira em forma de trelica, partindo de um modelo com caracteristicas construtivas especificas. Tal estrutura foi idealizada, desenhada e construida por meio de criterios empiricos, baseados na experimentacao e pratica pessoal. Este estudo busca evidenciar diferencas no dimensionamento das tercas de madeira, com base em criterios tecnicos estabelecidos atraves de normas tecnicas pertinentes ao assunto. Ao final, a comparacao entre ambos os projetos, empirico e tecnico, identificou-se pontos passiveis de melhoria, tanto na ocorrencia de excessos no uso de materiais, como na necessidade de adequacao de acordo com a resistencia requerida. ABSTRACT This article deals with the calculation necessary for the sizing of a building cover, from a trussed wooden structure, starting from a model with specific constructive characteristics. Such a structure was idealized, designed and constructed by means of empirical criteria, based on personal experimentation and practice. This study seeks to show differences in the sizing of wood trimmings, based on technical criteria established through technical norms pertinent to the subject. At the end, the comparison between the two projects, empirical and technical, identified areas that could be improved, both in the occurrence of excesses in the use of materials and in the need for adequacy according to the required resistance.
