This paper focuses on the use of computer-assisted techniques for conducting survey interviews by telephone (CATI). A few of the basic and some of the more advanced features of CATI systems are briefly listed. Experiences with integrating the CATI electronic questionnaire into survey planning training execution and data processing in a academic research setting accustomed to traditional pencil and paper survey methods are discussed. Special attention is placed on the social aspects of introducing CATI technology into an established research environment. (authors)
