This article is composed of two parts. In the first part, it is presented the impact of history in the narratives of the foreign travellers Jean de Lery (1994), Martin de Nantes (1706), Ferdinand Denis (1955), Rugendas (1940) and Spix and Martius (1938). The second part starts out by presenting significant ideas and concepts of Candido (1961; 1964) and Sussekind (1994), focusing on the presence of the landscape in the romantic period of Brazilian  literature, with the intention of presenting a brief parallel with French poetry.
