We report the first record of Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus) in the cities of Chihuahua and Delicias in Chihuahua, Mexico. From June to December of 2011 we observed five individuals of this species at the premises of the Facultad de Zootecnia y Ecologia of the Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua; groups of 2 to 12 individuals in the urban area of the city of Chihuahua in 2012, and four individuals in the city of Delicias, 80 km southeast the city of Chihuahua, in 2013. Previously, in January 2011, a sighting of a single individual in the northwest of the state was reported in the electronic portal aVerAves. Given the presence of active nests in the cities of Chihuahua and Delicias, the species may be already established on this part of the country. We recommend the follow up of the existing populations to document the possible risks for the ecosystems in the region.
