A b s t r a c t Bioacoustic research of Revillagigedo Archipielago birds: a progress report Bird vocalizations have become important tools in the study of taxonomic relationships, behavioral ecology, and sexual selection. In this paper, we present and compare vocalizations of 12 avian species at Socorro and Clarion islands in the Revillagigedo Archipelago. We present sonograms of some vocalizations as well as a discussion of their characteristics and geographic differences - at the level of demes, subspecies, or species. We compare vocalizations of some species with those of their continental counterparts. We document some relevant acoustic events such as female songs, antiphonal duets by Socorro Wrens, and matched countersinging offered by neighboring Socorro Mockingbirds at dawn and dusk. Also, we discuss the use of some songs and calls in certain conservation tasks such as, censusing populations, identifying sex, or in determining the number of mated and unmated individuals. We finish this contribution by making some suggestions for future studies in this insular region.
