The advance in preventive medicine propitiated an improvement in the quality of life and, consequently, a greater existential expectation. In agreement of studies pointed out by WHO the number of people in the third age is increasing, being evident in countries that are developing. Growing old is a natural event that brings changes in different aspects impacting the health of the elderly. In this review, the aging chain is addressed by morphological and functional changes of the involved systems. The methodology used was developed through bibliographical researches with materials provided on online platforms or already printed. After analysis, it was noted that the aging process is due to changes in fundamental systems such as the immune, nervous and neuroendocrine, therefore, associated with the onset of pathologies.
