The modeling of filling containers with different shapes is a very interesting problem, both from the point of view of physics and mathematics, which can be exploited both in areas of formal and non-formal education. The analysis of the graphs that represent the evolution of the height of the free surface of a liquid versus time is presented as a challenge not very easy for most students who enter the university. In this paper, we show how the software Modellus 4.01 can help overcome this challenge and play a motivating role for addressing this type of problems. The filling process modeling allows testing mathematical skills of students at the same time clarifying aspects of the physics involved by viewing computational environment of the variation of the time dependent variables.
