This thesis will serve both as index to bass clarinet literature and as an annotated bibliography examining the difficultly level of bass clarinet solo and ensemble literature up to trios and method books focusing solely on bass clarinet. Orchestral excerpt books including parts for the bass clarinet will also be examined. The thesis will be divided into three different sections. The first section will provide a comprehensive listing of materials divided by solos, duets, trios, method books, and orchestral excerpt books subdivided by composer. The next section will examine in detail, the difficulty of each work based on a grading rubric. Works will be divided into three categories: elementary, intermediate, and advanced. The final section will divide the works up by musical eras. Each work will be given an accession number tied to the difficulty section to facilitate easy access to information from the solo/ chamber music grouping and musical era sections to the works by difficulty section.
