This research aims to develop a teaching strategy of teaching learning mathematics using chess that will improve academic performance in students in the Salas district. The educational dynamic today makes us know that chess is a playful and intellectual sport that helps children develop their mental skills and thereby improve their learning processes; Thus, practicing chess improves spatial, numerical and organizational faculties, task planning and decision-making. The teaching strategy to be inserted is the math teaching strategy using chess that will improve students' academic performance and is structured from identifying by a diagnosis the actual situation being investigated and which declares the overall objective and strategic planning. In addition to the stages, actions, principles and procedures that make up it. The research uses scientific methods of the theoretical, empirical and statistical level, which corroborate the results achieved with the application of the contribution and the transformations achieved, noting that the teaching performance was improved.
