The struggle against unemployment is one of the most fundamental goals of economic management. After the global financial crisis, unemployment rates have seen significant increases, and the unemployment problem and the determinants of unemployment have become one of the most debated issues. In this study, the effects of labour market regulations, macroeconomic and demographic factors on unemployment indicators (total, educated, female, young and long-term) are examined. According to the results of the panel regression analysis conducted in the 15 member countries of The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for the period 2005-2014, the flexible labour market regulations are significantly negatively affecting all unemployment indicators. Increased flexibility in the labour market reduces unemployment rates. Findings show that structural factors in the labour market play an important role on unemployment. Moreover, the results confirm that the most important role in the fight against unemployment is the increase in investments.
