This study focuses on how the students enrolled in Painting Education Departments of Faculties of Education use imaginary in painting. The study aims to assess the students’ ability to engage in imaginary painting; to identify the most frequently used methods of imaginary painting as well as the problems they face in imaginary painting, culminating in proposals to develop solutions. To do so, interviews were carried out with the students enrolled in Sivas Cumhuriyet University, Faculty of Education, Department of Painting Education, who were included in the sample, as well as their professors. The study employing the interview method entailed communication with the professors and students, to understand their stance regarding imaginary painting, and the methods they use for imaginary paintings. The input thus gathered were then translated to quantitative data, and presented in various tables in terms of frequency and percentiles. The analysis of the findings led to certain recommendations based on detailed information about the importance of imaginary painting within the wider domain of painting, and the methods to be employed in imaginary painting. In this context, the study is a crucial one as it emphasizes the need for imaginary work in painting education.
