ADNAN MENDERES'İN GÖZÜNDEN İSTANBUL VE ANKARA OLAYLARI

About one month before the May 27 coup d'état, a protest, initiated by university students in Ankara, was held in Istanbul following the decision to establish an investigation commission in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The attitude of the government to this demonstration was tough and a martial law was proclaimed. According to the Democrat Party, these workers were organized by dark handlers, and students were cast into the streets. Adnan Menderes, the chief executive, spoke to the citizens of the radio every day from 29th to May 2nd after the outbreak of the events, and told the events in the first mouth. Menderes then went on a tour of Western Anatolia and made speeches about the incidents that happened in Istanbul and Ankara. Menderes in his talks particularly concerned that these protests were organized by a superior intelligence, and that people were deceived by false reports. He was also pointed a group of CHP executives as responsibles of these incidents and criticized them in hardening manner.
