Objective: To characterize the existing aspects in the contraception counseling developed by health providers. Methodology: It was done a hand searching of scientific articles in the databases Science Direct, PubMed, Clinical Key y Google Academico, it was formulated equations with the combination of the keywords implemented in the study. After evaluating the inclusion and exclusion criteria to 424 pieces of analysis. The analysis of Critical Appraisal Skills Programme espanol (CASPe) was conducted on 89 studies considered as potentially eligible. Results: 10 studies were included in the review, the process of analysis and systematizacion of the data expressed in the studies, allow the constitution of four the thematic central concepts, which are current during the contraception counseling and are related to: I. The sociocultural influence, II. The health providers, III. The social commitment and IV. The knowledge and practices. Conclusions: The characterizations of the present aspects about the contraception counseling performed by the health suppliers, raise awareness around the necessity of implementing strategies to strength it, and to be projected as a vital space, which looks for the maternal health improvement and the decrease of maternal and perinatal mortality. However, the improvement in this attention demands to reconsider the conditions under which it is offered in the regions characterized by having this problem.
