Empresarios, católicos y Estado en la consolidación del campo cinematográfico en Argentina

This article analyzes three moments between the decades of 1930 and 1940 that allow for an understanding of the process by which the state, the film business, and the Catholic clergy and laity consolidated to become the most influential actors of cinema in Argentina. The work addresses the redefining of the links between the branches of the business and the emergence of an industrial film production in the framework of the changes wrought by the implementation of sound and the impact of the global economic crisis; the development of the Catholic moral bureau within the experience of institutional overlapping of the state and the Catholic Church; and the planning of state policy on cinematographic protection and promotion that produced an identification of interests of producers and the state, in the context of US sanctions on Argentina during World War II. The article discusses the concept of relative autonomy linked to the theory of the fields of Bourdieu and the problematization of this concept in the light of an industrial art like cinematography, proposing to understand the participation of these actors in the cinema field from the analysis of concrete ways of internal restructuring of external influences. Resumen Este trabajo analiza tres momentos entre las decadas de 1930 y 1940 que permiten comprender el proceso por el cual el Estado, los empresarios cinematograficos y el clero y el laicado catolico se consolidaron como los actores mas influyentes del cine en Argentina. Se abordan la redefinicion de los vinculos entre las ramas del empresariado y el surgimiento de una produccion cinematografica industrial en el marco de las transformaciones provocadas por la implementacion del sonoro y el impacto de la crisis economica mundial; el desarrollo de oficinas de moralidad catolicas en el marco de la experiencia de imbricacion institucional de Estado e Iglesia catolica; y la elaboracion de una politica estatal de proteccion y fomento cinematografico que produjo una identificacion de intereses de empresarios productores y Estado, en el contexto de las sanciones de Estados Unidos a Argentina durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El trabajo discute el concepto de autonomia relativa relacionada a la teoria de los campos de Bourdieu y la problematizacion de este concepto a la luz de un arte industrial como la cinematografia, proponiendo entender la participacion de estos actores en el campo cinematografico a partir del analisis de modos concretos de reestructuraciones internas de influencias externas.
