Work is for occupational therapists a central concern. The beginning of the professional practice on the labor sector in Colombia has been situated on 70s, with the introduction of professional rehabilitation. Nevertheless, it has transcended this stage, reaching the health and wellbeing of workers. In 1996 the Occupational Therapy program of the Universidad Metropolitana of Barranquilla was opened, giving a place to training and professional projection in this field. The paper presents the results of a research with historical approach that uses documentary sources and testimonies. It is oriented to contextualize and relate the story of training and practice of the profession in this sector in the Caribbean region, especially in the occupational therapy program of the Universidad Metropolitana, and emphasizing in 1 Terapeuta Ocupacional.
