The paper discusses changes in the employment structure as a measure of evaluating the ability of a territorial unit to adapt to changes dictated by its close and distant surrounding. In the article, we also address the relation between the ability to change and labour productivity in a given territorial unit. The aim of the paper is to identify, assess and compare processes of the transformation of employment structures, and to analyse the influence of these processes on workforce productivity in the subregions of Lower Silesia and Greater Poland voivodeships. We discuss changes in the employment structure from 2010 to 2014 according to section groups. We also examine the intensity, pace and monotonicity of structure transformations and compare these results against the measure of labour productivity.
