SUMMARYThis article reviews the concepts associatedwith dermatoglyphs such as their classification,characteristics and applications. Italso reviews orofacial clefts such as cleftlip and palate and proposes a possible relationshipbetween dermatoglyphics andthese orofacial clefts, entities that are consideredisolated at first, but considering thatthey are derived from the same embryonictissue, the ectoderm, and their developmentis in the same period of gestation, makinggenetic and environmental factors thatwould influence the development of theasyndromic lip and / or palate could bereflected in the fingerprints and the type ofpattern that they follow.Key words: Cleft lip, dermatoglyphics,cleft palate, fingerprint.
