In this article I present the analysis of the features and artifact assemblages of two Southern Je mound and enclosure sites. Both exhibit rectangular annexes in their architecture, as well as a large quantity of lithics, which dierentiates them from other sites of the same category. I suggest that the architectural complexity and activity areas evidenced in the sites point to a greater elaboration in mortuary ritual associated with greater architectural complexity in late periods. Tese distinctions may be related to the emergence of complex chiefdoms, as was reported for the Kaingang in the 19th century
