The Managerial Competencies of the Apparel Designers, A Study based on Industrial View

The managerial competencies of the apparel designer s’ study was conducted based on the industry view on two concepts such as Leadership management and global a wareness. About 50 questionnaires were distributed ra ndomly to the heads of different types of fashion apparel bus iness establishments across India like export hou se, fashion retail store and fashion house across India, of which 39 wer e responded. The response rate is to be 78%. The ob j ctives of the study were to identify the required Leadership manag ement skills for apparel designers and to ascertain the global awareness among apparel designers. Leadership manage ment has been analysed based on ten variables such as communication skills, creative thinking skills, cri tical thinking skills, critique oneself constructiv ely, critique others constructively, decision making, evaluate the envir onment, interpret customer needs/wants, leadership a nd team work.. The criteria of global awareness have been analysed based on six different variables such as educationa l and political issues, global competition etc. Interpreting custom er needs and wants was a vital skill in leadership m anagement. The skill of critiquing others constructively was of lea st importance under leadership management. Ethics an d decision making and sustainable business practices were consi dered of equal importance under global awareness, wh ereas political issues are held as least important.
