Poetry, according to William Wordsworth was a recor d of "emotion recollected in tranquility", moments of the inspired. Perception produced on emotion, which rec ollected after some time, revealed its spiritual si gnificance. This view of origin seems unique for no other poet has held s uch a view, but then few poets have taken us into c onfidence in this matter. If they had, we might have had a confirmati on of Wordsworth's experience which after all, is n ot so very strange or peculiar as it appears. However, that may be man y of his poems were certainly based on. According t o Wordsworth, poet would have selected appropriate language, imag in tion.
