Serials are a major source of entertainment through out the world and every country produces its own va riety to satisfy its audiences. Same is the case in India , which produces heaps of television serials in its national as well as its various regional languages, for its own native audi ences. These serials address to the highly emotiona l stratum of the audience, and are noted for its over-weighed melodr ama. In this context, the western media texts play a very significant role in the audiences' perception. High technical a nd aesthetic quality of these texts makes it attrac ive to the audiences. Under such circumstances, the consumers for the wes tern produced series are on the rise in the country . The new and younger generation is chiefly responsible for this new trend. The present research paper ensues into t his shift in audiences' interest and the factors that pave way f or this new trend to seep in.
